Laura Poole was one of many participants of the annual Naked Bike Ride. She's rode through Cardiff plenty of times on her bike - but this time was going to be different and also scary as hell.

Over 50 cyclists donned their helmets and very little else as they took to the streets in protest to encourage drivers to be more aware of bike users on the road. A of residents were bracing the weather with very little on as they took part in a naked cycle ride in protest over safety for cyclists.

A group of naked cyclists shed their clothing and grabbed their bikes to make their way through the streets of Edinburgh. The World Naked Bike Ride first began in the United States to protest oil dependency and celebrate body positivity and now takes place in over cities across the globe. More than 15 cyclists set off from The Meadows on Saturday afternoon, September 4, with many only wearing helmets and rucksacks - while others chose to wear a T-shirt.

One onlooker, who was in the park where the cyclists gathered, told the Daily Record: "I thought it was great. He added: "I didn't see anything too shocking because of the distance I was at but a friend said she'd be wiping down any Just Eat hire bikes before she uses them because some of them were on them.

The ride made its way into the city centre with more locals taking to social media after seeing the unusual sight. The Royal Mile was also set to also be taken over by cyclists in the nude, with those taking part in the global event asked to meet on the Meadows. The Edinburgh chapter of the ride applied to Edinburgh City Council bosses for permission to stage the event. An Edinburgh Council spokesperson confirmed to the Daily Record they were aware of the bike ride taking place in the city today.
